USACE has added some small spillway releases to hydro releases from Norfork Dam to boost oxygen levels and protect trout in the tailwater.
We will begin making spillway releases from Norfork Dam at about noon today. The combined non-damaging spillway and hydropower release will be around 4,275 cubic feet per second. The operation is aimed at improving dissolved oxygen levels in the downstream tailrace of the North Fork River. This will also allow for increased generation rates, as well as faster reduction in the reservoir’s flood storage. The release has been coordinated with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and is scheduled to last about a week. Water temperatures are not expected to exceed 70 degrees.
