IF YOU have ventured on the White over the past week or so you might have notice the huge swarms of dragon flies over the river.

From what I can establish these are the Wandering Glider (Pantala flavescens) which also goes by a bunch of other names, and the most widespread dragon fly on the planet. Just while the multitude has descended on the White after a few years absence is something of a mystery, to those not intimate with their habits.

This species can be migratory with 6000 mile journeys, one of the farthest migrations of any insect, using preferably warm humid winds: and its been warm and humid of late. If there are any experts out there with some detailed knowledge drop us a line: steve@theozarkflyfisher.com
