JOHNSON STREAMER CLASS: January 18

Chad Johnson demonstrating casting technique

OUR best-selling, most popular, ridiculously fun streamer class, led by Dally’s head guide Chad Johnson, will be held January 18. The streamer class will kick off the classes for the 2020 Streamer Lovefest on January 25.

This class is about matching our very experienced trophy hunting streamer team with eager newcomers wanting a taste of big flies and big rods: White River style. There are lots of places to go streamer fishing _ but few places are match the White River in terms of big flies and the size of brown trout which will eat them.

What you get for your $250 is a detail in-store morning class running through the theory of predator trout behaviour and feeding patterns, the gear you need, fly design and finally presentation techniques, led by Mississippi Johnson.

For the afternoon you will spend 4 hours in a drift boat with one of our streamer crew, paired up with another classmate, to put the theory into practice.

We stress first off the classes aren’t about the catching. Its all about passing on the fundamentals so everyone is set to go hunting a trophy White River brown, on their own or on a guide trip with one of our team. The guys will work on the skills you need to take this on yourselves: it might be casting, fly selection and presentation or hook sets.

These classes have traditionally been over subscribed so we require full payment up front. In the event of an emergency, we will endeavor to sell your spot to another class member. In the event we resell your spot, you will get a full refund.

Class starts at 8am with the classroom session inside the fly shop. Class breaks around 11.30am for students to gather lunch and gear for the hands-on afternoon session on the water.

All our guides have rods and lines tailored to our river conditions, feel free to try out stuff that works. Or bring your own gear to put to the test.

Dress for the occassion, we suggest appropriate layers, and a waterproof outershell, be it waders, or bibs and jacket, but you probably won’t need to be earing in in the morning class.
