The day has finally come: Friday Trout Unlimited #698 members set free the 40+ remaining rainbow trout we have had in the Trout in the Classroom display in the fly shop for the past 7 months.

These little beggars had done amazingly well, the biggest a plump 6.5″ plus. Along the way they helped raise funds for Chapter #698’s awesome Trout in the Classroom project and awareness over the TiCprogram.

And we know of several schools, as far away as Oklahoma, are now seeking to join Trout in the Classroom program after coming across the project at Dally’s.

Trout in the Classroom is a Trout Unlimited program across the US, putting coldwater trout rearing into classrooms. With tanks, chillers and trout eggs provided by TU and sponsors, school children get to use the hatching and rearing of the eggs as a learning process.

We started with 150 rainbow trout eggs in out Trout Unlimited coldwater tank in the shop in September. We finished with over 40 which is better than the 92% attrition rate in the wild. We have little doubt there was some degree of predation going on in the shop when the lights were out.

A huge thanks to all at #698 for their help in this project.
