Its All In The Timing

Marc Poulos with a gorgeous White River trophy brown

EVEN on its slower days the White River is a phenomenal fishery, sometimes it takes some work what with the tremendous variation in flows, the sheer size of the water, but when you get the variables right and it’s on then few places can match it. Marc Poulos and the Journal had an EPIC streamer afternoon on the White Monday.

A four hour float produced four fish over 21″, though we only managed pics of  three, the biggest perhaps according to Marc around 25″ came unbuttoned next to the boat. The superbly conditioned big female above crunched a Super Bunny streamer in a few inches of water, the attack leaving spray hanging 2′ high.

Then there were the fish we missed. A nice brown around 2′ long which shook the Marc’s hook free in a violent head shake clearly visible to myself on the oars, a mental picture which will stay with me for a long time. Then there was a heavy fish which was tracking my streamer deep, turn and rocketed upwards and beat my strip strike for sheer speed.
