If there is one skill you probably really need to know its how to extract a barbed hook from flesh. The above video we spotted over on the always entertaining Moldy Chum blog is about as good a lesson as it gets.
Its also a pretty good education on why barbless hooks are good.
Use heavy cord/line to make the loops around the bend of the hook, push the eye of the hook down and give it a sharp tug.
And if this guy fishing in Alaska can cope with that monster treble a size 14 isn’t going to be too much trouble.
