Fly Tying _ What Not To Do
I’VE always liked the Swittersb fly tying blog, he features some great ideas, good yarns, and has a sense of humor. This week I stumbled over an article of the kind you don’t see often from fly tiers _ “Mistakes to Note and Correct”, showing off the one’s not so perfect for the camera. [...]
FISHING REPORT 01-27-11
Chad pulls a nice fish yesterday on a day off FOR what is the “slow time” of the year the fishing has been red hot. In 3 days fishing this week there have been a 27″, 26″, a couple of 25s and a 24″ plus plenty of smaller browns. In fact the slowest afternoon’s fishing all week [...]
STREAMER CLASS FUN
A LITTLE slideshow of last weekend’s great Streamer Class with Alex Lafkas. If the first year’s class was very good, this year’s was superb, even if the browns weren’t on the job during the afternoon. I think we landed half a dozen to 18″ but all the photographers were awaiting better fish. The morning session [...]
Imitation v Presentation
SO is it the fly that catches or the way you fish it? Midcurrent.com’s take on the question which has ended friendships, started fireside fistfights and put blood on the floor of fly fishers all over the world. Great read put together by Phil Monahan here
Fishing Report Jan 21
WOW, just wow. The streamer bite on right now is seriously good, no real monsters but plenty of action, and some seriously nice fish spitting the hooks. If anyone gets a wild hair to fill the last seat in our streamer class, which has grown to a 5 drift boat flotilla this year, be at the shop [...]

FROM today’s Baxter Bulletin an interview with AGFC trout biologist Jeff Williams on river sampling on the White and Norfork. An analysis of an October sample of trout taken from the rivers shows managed fisheries producing world-class brown trout and an abundance of hatchery-grown rainbow trout in 11- to 12-inch lengths, says Arkansas [...]
Oregon Next?
Midcurrrent.com reports on Oregon’s legislatures consideration next month of a ban on felt-soled boots including some interesting quotes from Oregon Fish and Wildlife invasive species co-ordinator Rick Boatner who feels the ban might make it less likely that people with wash and clean their gear. ‘I’m afraid they’re going to get careless,’ says Boatner.” Which [...]
Fishing Report _ 1-13-2010
IF last weekend’s snowfall didn’t convince you its winter, then the midweek temperatures sure would have. Thankfully the weather forecast has temperatures climbing through the weekend. But the fishing itself has been redhot on the White and there have been whispers of a few shad being spotted. We are certainly hoping for a bigtime shad kill this year, [...]
New Flies and Stuff
IT’S that time of year again, when we start rolling out new flies, new gear and heck all sorts of good stuff. We had our first box from Umpqua Feather Merchants for the new year roll in yesterday, with one dang good looking streamer from Livington, Montana tyer Doug McKnight the Home Invader. Livingston is one [...]
Montana Considers Felt Sole Ban
The roll of State considering banning felt soles continues, as Midcurrent.com reports on the latest moves in the Montana legislature. And before a couple of our regular readers chime in LOL, I’ll repeat rubber soles aren’t a miracle cure for invasive species. Angler education on the continuing need to clean wading boots, waders, boats, [...]

Join the Mountain River Fly Shop’s trout streamer class on January 22, while the aim of the class is to learn the techniques, the conditions for streamer fishing are red hot right now too. Our team of streamer [...]
Whitlock Telstrike Indicators
JUST landed into the shop today Dave Whitlock’s Telstrike Indicators from Rainy’s Flies. The way some of our guide team has been oggling these indicators we figure they are going to be popular. And because Dave dreamed up these yarn indicators they are going to work. Actually the Telstrike’s are related to everyday yarn [...]
