SPRING is in the air, with blooms starting on the trees and caddis on the wing its time to starting thinking about that new rod you have been lusting after all winter.
Whether its an cannon for launching big streamers at trophy browns, a high water nymphing stick or perhaps a light 10-footer, or a light “twig” for small streams we have go you covered as the region’s largest Sage dealer. Come in and test any of our unsurpassed range of Sage fly rods.
Headlining this year’s freshwater offerings is the Sage 99 Series: These aren’t for parking lot heroics, or double hauling for the horizon. The 99s are designed by fly fishers to perform everyday fly fishing tasks exceptionally well. Multiple flies, strings of split shot and indicators the size of sparrows are all in a days work. And the 9′9″ length not only makes mending and line control easier but its actually easier on the arm than the 10-footers which have been so popular on the White River in recent years.
The 99’s unique taper loads lower on the blank to generate open loops, helping avoid tangles with multiple fly and indicator rigs. At the same time, a stiffer tip section handles heavy payload delivery but retains the sensitivity needed to detect subtle takes.
The 99s also feature slightly oversized guides specifically placed to make stack mending, shake-out and line feeding easier. Put it all together and you have a light, perfectly balanced rod that casts like a 9-footer but fishes like a 10. High-Stickers rejoice!
Sage TCX: As the Journal has joked with many of those customers who have wiggled out TCX collection over the last year. If I didn’t have teenage daughters I’d probably own ALL of the TCX series, I seriously love the way they cast, and they are way more approachable than the previous TCR series. But if you don’t like, or don’t have application for a cannon like these, perhaps the Z-Axis or ZXL series might better suit your tastes.
