THE US Army Corp of Engineers has told The Journal that the habitat work on Bull Shoals will not go ahead until at least August 17 and depending on rainfall may not go ahead this year at all.
Corp Planning and Environmental and Regulatory Division project manager for the Little Rock District Laura Cameron said that the intention had been to give the contractors the go-ahead, “through a notice to proceed” on Monday, August 3.
She said that the Corp had announced its intention to drawn down Beaver Lake 5′ and that water would eventually come through Bull Shoals. Mrs Cameron said that the Corp was hoping to start when the system was back at conservation pool, around “the middle of August”.
Mrs Cameron confirmed that the delay would mean that they would be “cutting it really close” to the October 1 deadline to have the work completed before the annual brown trout spawn.
She said that the Corp would have to re-evaluate the timing of the issue of the notice to proceed if there was a lot of rain between now and the 17th.
