THERE has been a lot of buzz about Simms decision to end felt-soled wading boots in favor of new Vibram sticky rubber soles. Aquastealth devotees are less apprehensive about the prospects of rubber but those whose only experience with rubber in rivers is old-school rubber soles are more skeptical.
Of course no wading sole is good on all surfaces, felt has its limitations, especially on wet grass or mud, and even only algae covered rock. Its why studded soles were invented.
Since our supplies of Simms Vibram Freestone, Women’s Headwaters and RiverShed boots are coming it we thought it timely to give you a review from a skeptic, Field and Stream Magazine’s Fly Talk Blogger Kirk Deeter.
