Ice Storm

This weekend marks, for many people, the opening of the 09 trout season, so the timing of this weeks Ice Storm could not have come at a worse time. Most of the region is still without power, most of Cotter. Mountain Home, Bull Shoals and Norfork. And there aren’t any easy answers as to when [...]

Ice Storm

Sitting here watching limbs break off trees around the Journal’s home. We have had about an inch of ice overnight and more coming. It seems this is a case of waiting for when the power will go out not if. So the Journal this week is pending, shall we say.

Monday Pictorial _ Jan 25, 09

SOMETIMES it pays off to get out of the water and just lay in the grass. In ’02, I spent several days out on the back end of Kodiak Island chasing King Salmon for an article for Flylife magazine. The water was low and the fishing relatively slow, but with a limited time schedule and [...]

Flyline Selection

Ooops Y’all probably know the name Bruce Richards, he was here at the ’07 Conclave, as one of the world finest fly casters and fly casting instructors. But Bruce is also the fly line guru at Scientific Anglers. Having been reading and writing about fly fishing for almost 15years I’m getting pretty selective in my dotage about [...]

Where’s my Camera.

It is said that of you want to catch a trophy fish leave the camera, or the net at home. When Steve Fisher caught this chunky brown a couple of weeks back on the river with Davy Wotton, it was right. Davy actually had left his camera at  home. Thank goodness for cell phones.

Rockbridge _ An escape from high water

Snug As A Bug

BACK in the dayI grew up in the Great Southern Ocean, surfing  all year round. Winter storms would push the swells up from the Antarctic, big gray and cold. Several times we surfed with snow in the air or ice on the ground, we spent a lot of the time wet. My saviour was a [...]

The Fishmobile has a Name.

Y’all made us chuckle, guffaw and laugh till the tears rolled down our faces. Y’all are some funny beggars. But  Thanks to everyone who came out to play on naming Jim’ Rogers’ Fishmobile, we had better than 20 responses both here and on the Fly Fish Arkansas and Missouri Bulletin Board. Jim called into the [...]
